Aberdeen, Maryland
Aberdeen, Maryland is a community that abuts
substantial military facilities in the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. The
facility focuses on testing equipment for use by the military. Thus, many
engineers working for and with the military are involved with activity at
the base. The base also has a history of storage of environmentally
contaminating materials.
In an effort to
preserve pieces of the facilities that are no longer considered part of the
“strategic mission”, TCG, under contract to Aberdeen’s Economic Development
Commission, developed proposals to find additional revenue sources or cut
costs to the military. The strategic proposals included:
|
 |
 | Joint Use of the
airport, with potential significant positive economic implications to the
Greater Aberdeen area. |
 | Development of an
education and technological oriented private business park to capitalize
on the engineering capacity and talents of the military personal and those
who retire from the base. |
 | Agreements TO
expand the local water supply by using the available base resources. |
 | Moving the fences”
to provide waterfront access for Aberdeen. |
|
 |
Charleston, South Carolina
TCG developed a plan and program for reuse
of properties in areas that had been impacted by the closing of adjacent
military facilities. Significant portions of the area involved brownfields.
|
| |
Fort Ritchie, Maryland
TCG conducted critical surveys and analysis
of opportunities associated with reuse of the former Fort Ritchie
instillations.

Indian Head
Like Aberdeen, Indian Head is a small
community seeking enhanced economic vitality. That vitality is in many ways
linked to the military base. TCG assisted with the conceptualization of
concepts to “move the fences” to facilitate expansion of the town, take over
of unnecessary or to be “surplused” buildings and land, and gain waterfront
access. |
